Service overview
FreeDB provides managed remote MySQL 8.0 database hosting for application development, ongoing projects, staging environments, learning, and testing. Free Sandbox databases are temporary and designed for short-lived testing, while Pro (Persistent) and Dedicated plans provide ongoing persistent MySQL hosting.
Free temporary databases
The Free Sandbox plan includes up to 2 temporary databases on sql.freedb.tech and up to 100 MB total database storage. Free plan databases automatically expire and are permanently deleted 30 days after creation unless upgraded to Pro before expiration. Unverified accounts are cleaned up after 48 hours. You are responsible for exporting any data you wish to keep on the Free tier.
Pro (Persistent) plan & backups
The Pro (Persistent) plan is $5/month and includes up to 5 persistent databases on pro.freedb.tech, up to 1 GB (1,024 MB) total database storage, custom database/user naming, automated daily backups (retained for 5 days per database), on-demand manual snapshots, and a final pre-deletion backup if a database is deleted by the user. If a Pro subscription is cancelled or expires, databases remain persistent through the paid billing period and then receive a 30-day grace window before becoming eligible for cleanup.
Cancellation and refunds
You may cancel the persistent plan at any time from your dashboard or PayPal account. There is no notice period for cancellation. Subscription payments and voluntary community donations are final and non-refundable, except where required by applicable law or in the event of a verified duplicate billing issue.
Community donations & supporters wall
Voluntary one-time tips or donations made through Ko-fi or PayPal are gratuities that help support FreeDB's free community infrastructure for students and developers. Donations do not constitute a purchase of goods, services, or hosting credits, and are strictly final and non-refundable. Public donations may display the donor's chosen display name, donation amount, and optional public message on FreeDB's Wall of Supporters (/donate). Donor email addresses are kept strictly confidential and are never displayed publicly. FreeDB reserves the right to hide, remove, or refund any donation or message that appears fraudulent, abusive, or spammy.
Privacy & user data
We collect only the minimum information required to operate your account and databases: your name, email address, IP address (for abuse prevention and rate limiting), subscription/payment identifiers via PayPal or Ko-fi, and any optional product feedback you submit. We never sell your personal information or database contents to third parties. You may delete your account and all associated databases at any time from your profile settings, or contact support@freedb.tech to request removal of a supporter wall entry or feedback submission.
Storage limits and over-quota protection
Database size must stay within your plan storage quota: 100 MB total on the Free plan and 1 GB (1,024 MB) total on the Pro Persistent plan. If an account exceeds its storage quota, FreeDB automatically restricts write operations (INSERT, UPDATE, CREATE) while keeping read and cleanup operations (SELECT, DELETE, DROP) active until usage returns below the limit or the account is upgraded.
Acceptable use
Do not use FreeDB for spam, abuse, malware, credential theft, illegal content, denial-of-service activity, high-volume scraping, or storing sensitive regulated data (such as HIPAA/PCI-regulated records). Accounts or databases that harm service reliability may be rate-limited, suspended, or removed.
Data responsibility & security
FreeDB isolates each database user to its assigned schema, encrypts credentials at rest in our control plane, and supports TLS/SSL connections on port 3306. Even with Pro automated backups enabled, we recommend maintaining independent off-site backups of critical production data.
